De Vaucouleurs Atlas Description:

DDO 50 , also known as Holmberg II , shows mostly disorganized structure and represents a good example of an Im type. There are scattered resolved stars and star-forming complexes. The image shows a possible bar-like feature well away from the geometric center. Karachentsev (2005) lists DDO 50 as a member of the M81 group at a distance of 3.39 Mpc. The galaxy is well-known for the expanding ``holes" found in its HI distribution (Puche et al. 1992) which are indicative of the impact of violent star formation on its interstellar medium.
