De Vaucouleurs Atlas Description:

This galaxy is an excellent example of a nonbarred ringed galaxy. Although at a redshift of 15,900+/-52 km/s (NED ), ESO 236-29 shows three fairly obvious ring features. The dominant inner ring is very well-defined and according to the CSRG (Buta 1995a) has an angular diameter of 0.65. At the distance of 211 Mpc (Ho = 75 km/s/Mpc), the diameter of this ring would be enormous, 40 kpc, much bigger than most rings seen. A thin outer ring that could be made of a single arm is also present. There is also a partial nuclear ring, although it too would be enormous compared to other such rings.
