De Vaucouleurs Atlas Description:

Leo I is one of the brighter dSph galaxies, and is a member of the Milky Way subgroup of the Local Group (Mateo 1998). Although classified as type dE3 in RC3, we adopt the type dSph because this is the accepted classification by people who work on the low luminosity members of the Local Group.
