De Vaucouleurs Atlas Description:

This large, inclined galaxy is an excellent example of an S0. Structure is differentiated mainly because of a darker zone in the middle of the disk. Inside this dark zone is a bright inner lens , although its boundary is not sharp. Outside the dark zone is an extended disk. Inspection of a luminosity profile reveals that the apparent lens and dark zone represent an inflection in the light distribution. The lens is not a plateau in this case but is a region where the slope of the light distribution is steeper than in the outer disk.
