De Vaucouleurs Atlas Description:

NGC 3511 has a very small core nearly superposed by a foreground star. The weak bar is oriented approximately southwest-northeast and is patchy. The outer disk includes patchy and ill-defined spiral features, with considerable dust. Although there are no large star-forming complexes, the small size of the core and the high degree of openness of the arms favors the stage Scd.
