De Vaucouleurs Atlas Description:

NGC 4088 is an unusual spiral with a very small core. The sharp s-shape suggests that the galaxy is weakly-barred, hence the SAB classification; a possible foreshortened oval appears in a 2.2 micron 2MASS image (Jarrett et al. 2003) to support this possibility. Much of the structure of this galaxy appears to be defined by dust. The slightly distorted shape could be due to an interaction with neighboring NGC 4085 .
