De Vaucouleurs Atlas Description:

The inner ring of NGC 4553 is well-defined and strongly resembles that seen in ESO 111-22 (see Sb section). The main difference is that ESO 111-22 has a patchy outer ring , while NGC 4553 has only a faint extended disk beyond the inner ring . The inner ring itself is a very well-defined feature and it appears complete; it not as enhanced around the major axis as is, for example, the inner ring in NGC 7702 . There is no primary bar crossing the inner ring . Instead, there is a small nuclear bar or inner disk aligned nearly with the ring major axis. In a color index map (Buta and Crocker 1991), the inner ring is found to have slightly enhanced blue colors.
