De Vaucouleurs Atlas Description:

We include NGC 4623 in this section only because it looks like an edge-on galaxy. However, Sandage and Bedke (1994) interpret the galaxy as only one of two known genuine E7 galaxies. From the Atlas image, there is only the faintest trace of an edge-on disk, but and only weak evidence for a lens. There is also a round core. The object is definitely consistent with Hubble's view of an E7, but because of the faint lens, we adopt an E+ classification.
