De Vaucouleurs Atlas Description:

The bar is a very strong, sharp-ended feature. It crosses a weak ring-lens feature that looks virtually complete but is well-defined only near the bar ends. We interpret the variety as a weak lens which is very slightly enhanced at the edge. In better seeing the edge of this feature might be sharper. The outer disk includes weak, almost flocculent spiral features. These are the basis for the S0/a classification.

NGC 4643 is well-known as a normal-looking barred galaxy having a possible faint polar ring (Whitmore et al. 1990).
