De Vaucouleurs Atlas Description:

The bar is a conspicuous inner oval, from which the spiral structure appears to emerge. Much of the spiral pattern is defined by dust lanes. The Sb classification is based on the tightness of the spiral pattern and its relatively low degree of resolution.

NGC 5005 is classified as a LINER , and its gas dynamics have been studied by Sakamoto, Baker, and Scoville (2000).
