De Vaucouleurs Atlas Description:

NGC 5078 appears to be an edge-on Sa, only in this case there does not appear to be much of an extended disk. From what little is visible of this disk, it appears to have weak flocculent spiral structure on the southeast side, and is thus similar to NGC 4594 . On this basis, there can be little doubt that the galaxy is nonbarred. A small companion, IC 879 , is also visible in the Atlas image and may be interacting with NGC 5078 .
