De Vaucouleurs Atlas Description:

This is a very fine ``grand design " Sc spiral having two main arms and two secondary ones. The core is very small and the spiral winds directly to it. The small core, and the very open arms, support the Sc classification. NGC 5247 is discussed in the context of near-IR surface photometry and density wave theory by Grosbol and Patsis (1998).
