De Vaucouleurs Atlas Description:

NGC 5248 is very similar to NGC 1566 in having a bright spiral distributed within a broad oval, bar-like zone (Jogee et al. 2002). Also like NGC 1566, the galaxy resembles NGC 1433 in several ways, including at least one ``plume" feature. There is a nuclear ring of blue knots as well, but this very deep image is unfortunately saturated in the core region and no details are seen in the ring.
