De Vaucouleurs Atlas Description:

The SAB classification is based on the small inner oval zone. This zone has a slightly patchy structure, and at first sight there appears to be an inner ring defining the boundary of the oval. However, this apparent inner ring could be defined partly by foreground stars, and we have adopted an (s) classification. The outer arms are very open, and the core is very small, thus the type is Sc.
