De Vaucouleurs Atlas Description:

These are two of the most luminous early-type members of the Hercules Cluster (A2151). The two galaxies are similar except that NGC 6041 has an extended envelope. The outer isophotes of this envelope are also distorted somewhat towards the pair NGC 6040 A,B. Schombert (1987) classifies both galaxies as giant ellipticals (gE).
