De Vaucouleurs Atlas Description:

The core is very small in this galaxy, and the arms are extensive, but there is little patchiness in the arms. Still, we adopt an Sc classification because the core is so small.

NGC 6215 is interacting gravitationally with nearby NGC 6221 . The interaction has produced a tidal bridge and a possible dwarf galaxy made of bridge material (Koribalski and Dickey 2004).
