De Vaucouleurs Atlas Description:

NGC 7640 appears to be a highly inclined version of NGC 7479 . That it is an SB galaxy was also noted in the Hubble Atlas . The bar is viewed broadside-on, and the variety is definitely (s). Thus, the high inclination does not mitigate seriously against reliably classifying this galaxy. The appearance suggests that near-side extinction is not impacting the observed morphology as much as in other galaxies. The morphology appears to be globally two-armed, with little multi-armed structure.
