De Vaucouleurs Atlas Description:

The inner ring is broken on both sides of the bar minor axis, and is not closed enough to merit a full (r) classification. The ring deprojects into a relatively circular shape, very much like that seen in NGC 3992 . A complex spiral pattern imbedded in a bright disk lies outside the region, and in fact the contrast of the spiral features relative to the disk is fairly low. The pattern is global in the area of the inner pseudoring , but more flocculent further out. The color index map shows that the bar lacks strong leading dust lanes , but in spite of this the galaxy has a blue nuclear region. The outer arms are defined by numerous blue associations. The red patch south of the nucleus among the arms is a background galaxy peering through the disk.
