De Vaucouleurs Atlas Description:

This excellent barred galaxy, where inner spiral structure defines an open inner pseudoring , is a good example of its type. The main arms break slightly off the ends of the bar and change pitch angle farther out. The outer arms do not form an outer pseudoring . The type of rs pattern seen in NGC 266 is different from that in NGC 4548 , where the bracket morphology is seen. The bar in NGC 266 is interesting in that it appears not to fill the major axis of the inner pseudoring . There are no clear bar dust lanes and no nuclear ring evident at the resolution of the image. The Sab classification is due to the slight patchiness and intermediate tightness of the spiral arms.
