The IC 342/Maffei Group is one of the nearest major galaxy groups to the Milky Way. It is only 3-4 Megaparsecs distant. In 1999, Dr. Marshall McCall and I did a major photometric study of the group using near-infrared images obtained with the Kitt Peak National Observatory Burrell-Schmidt telescope. The weblink to our paper is at right.

Maffei 2 is the third most luminous member of the IC 342/Maffei Group.
